Each trap is balanced very much like a see saw; as the mouse enters the trap the resulting weight shift causes the lid to close behind.
The unharmed mouse should then be taken 2 miles away from the house and released. There is no need to worry as to whether the mice will go into the trap. They are inquisitive little things that will dart in and out of any new object; particularly if there is food in it.
